 Tombola Prizes Required

649 Squadron NewsWe are hoping to hold a Tombola when we attend the Country Fair next Month. If anybody has any suitable tombola prizes which they would be willing to donate we would be very grateful if you could bring this down to the Squadron within the next week so that we can begin organising this.

Many Thanks

 Squadron Jogging Bottoms

649 Squadron News It has come to our attention that there are times during the year that we attend events and wear DPM clothing to identify us and keep us uniformed; however there are times that DPM uniform is not the best choice for the task.  Because of this, we are looking at getting some jogging bottoms embroidered with 649 Squadron and the Squadron crest on the left leg, which will be worn in preference to DPM at specific events.
These will be individual purchases, but in order to get an order placed with any chance of having them ready for Froster means that we need to place an order within the next 48 hours.
The colour of the jogging bottoms will be grey and the wording and crest will be embroidered on the left leg within a 10cm X 10cm area.
Sizes are S/30, M/32, L/34, XL/36, and XXL/38
Price per pair will be £13.90
If there is interest later on in the year, we will look at a request made by a cadet concerning hooded sweatshirts with the Squadron crest on them.
In the meantime, if you want jogging bottoms, please give us your size and payment ASAP.

 Wing Training Day

649 Squadron NewsThe Operation Order for the Wing Training Day in September has now been issued. The general out line for the day will comprise of a number of competitions and training activities that the Squadron will be taking part in.
Initial briefs will take place this week to confirm which activities and competitions the cadets and staff will enter, and then we will start training towards this event.

We can only enter one team with a maximum of 15 cadets in it, so if you want to take part, you need to let the staff know as soon as possible.
A member of staff will be required to supervise the team during the day; some of the staff have already been tasked to assist the CO with the running of the swimming tests again this year.

If you want to know more information, speak to a member of staff and attend the briefings next week.

 B/TEC in Music

BTEC AwardsIf you have shown an interest in joining and playing in the Band, are over the age of 16, and would like the chance to gain a B/TEC qualification in music, please inform the staff so that the B/TEC Officer can see if you are eligible, and can register you before October 2010.

Some cadets may not be eligible due to the fact that their school is currently running this award as part of the syllabus, but there are some schools which aren't. You do not have to be studying music as a subject at school to register for this qualification, you just have to be able to prove you meet all of the criteria, details of which can be provided by the B/TEC Officer on demand.

D of E training and expeditions

Duke of Edinburgh's AwardFor those of you taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, you will need to start thinking about your expeditions. You must plan and submit your routes and the reason that you have chosen to do this expedition to the staff at least two months prior to commencing the activity.
If you wish to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award and don't know how to do so, all you need to do is ask the CO or any member of staff. What you will find out is that every cadet on the Squadron over the age of 14 should be taking part in this activity (even if you didn't realise that you are), and that the Civilian Committee fund your participation.

There are set to be changes in how we do things; we will now start looking at getting each cadet to pay for their D of E book initially, £10 for those undertaking their Bronze Award and £15 for those taking the Gold Award. This will be refunded on completion of the award. The reason for the change, is that if a cadet chooses to leave the Squadron or change operating authority, the Squadron should not be left footing the bill. If you have any questions regarding payment for D of E and you wish to discuss it with the CO in private, please let him know through the contact us page; the e-mail and contact number goes directly through to him and is confidential.
